Google Active Assist: No More Complexity on Managing Cloud Operations

A tool to solve complexity in the cloud, allowing you to focus on your business.

Today we will talk about the announcement of a new Google service, Google Active Assist. Cloud adoption is growing and will continue to grow steadily year over year. The problem is, the more applications you run in the cloud, the more systems you have to manage.

50% of C-level executives cited complexity as the main factor that will have the most negative impact on cloud computing over the next five years. Complexity can come in many ways, added waste, reduced security, increased administrative toil, among others.

This is the reason why Google has decided to create Active Assist. What is Active Assist? It´s a portfolio of intelligent tools and capabilities to help actively assist you when managing complex operations in the cloud.

Active assist extends the core concepts of the service and applies them to the rest of the entire Google Cloud Ecosystem. It can be applied to leverage data, for machine learning, for automation, and other services too.

Three main activities

The Active Assist portfolio helps you with three main activities. Making proactive improvements (includes smart recommendations), preventing common mistakes from happening (by giving you better analysis), and figuring out why something went wrong (by using intuitive troubleshooting tools). The main idea of Active Assist is to make your tasks simple and fast, so that you can shift your time from administration to innovation.

Some key capabilities can help you make it easier to maximize the value you get from the cloud. In-context actionable recommendations, Automation, and  Analysis tools.

In context, actionable recommendations help you in the Google Cloud Console. It helps you optimize efficiently. There is a place called the Recommendation Hub, that allows you to see your recommendations in one place. You can pull Recommendations from the Recommender API, Allowing you to incorporate recommendations into your organization’s processes. For more information, you can check out the blog.

Automation works like autoscaling and auto-healing. Your workloads always have the right amount of resources, and remain healthy and reliable while running.

Analysis tools like Connectivity Tests and Network Topology in the Network Intelligence Center lets you analyze the impact of configuration changes before you apply them.

When things go wrong, you can count on troubleshooting tools like Policy Troubleshooter in Policy Intelligence, helping you quickly identify the problem and solving it.
More capabilities will be continued to be added with time, as per the request of the users and from the Google Cloud teams who work in security, computation, networking, data, cost, and billing. If you're interested in testing out new capabilities before they are made publicly available, you can fill out a request to join the Active Assist Trusted Tester Group.

What is the mission of Active Assist?

Active assist has one goal in mind: to add intelligence into your operations by integrating it directly into your daily tasks. Instead of hunting down these tools and recommendations individually, Active Assist alerts you directly within your workspace.

By using Active Assist, you can make sure the service helps you manage any challenge that appears within the cloud. You can optimize your cloud workspace anywhere by saving time and focusing more on the development of your business.

In conclusion, Google has announced the release of a service that will help you when complex operations appear in the cloud. The idea is for you to use your time on the development of your business and your operations, while the same system helps you solve any problem. The system is currently based on three key capabilities. In-context actionable recommendations, Automation, and  Analysis tools.
